Sire -Lehndorff’s
EH Lehndorffs was named "Stallion of the Year" in Neumünster in 2007. This Hörstein Stud stallion is a prime mare producer in Germany with exceptional daughters that have produced outstanding sport horses and breeding stock alike. Lehndorffs is also the sire of the stallions Domhardt, Blitz und Donner *E*, Amadelio and Kaiser Wilhelm (premium, international Grand Prix dressage competitor for Denmark). In 2009, Lehndorffs' daughters Kandela, herself a winning S level dressage mare, and Kaiserin, produced the approved stallions Kandelus and Kentucky (Champion) in Neumünster.
E.H. Lehndorffs is from the famous Marduc - Halali dressage line, which also produced the elite stallion Anduc and his many excellent competition horses (e.g. Mon Acteur TFS, international Grand Prix dressage) and approved sons such as Le Duc (FEI dressage), as well as EH Herzzauber and Induc (Bundeschampion in Germany in 1994), to name a few. Marduc's paternal half brother EH Hyllos, with small breeding numbers, managed to produce several excellent international Grand Prix horses, among them the approved EH Solero TSF, the grey Lamborgini, and the Rhineland-branded mare Habanera. Lehndorff's mare family is the O358 Lore family, which also produced the US bred and German approved international Grand Prix dressage stallion Leonidas *Pg*.
Dam -Zophiel
Zophiel SR is our foundation mare, purchased in 2000. Shewas a beautiful grey mare (liver chestnut) and stood out with her incredible presence and manners. She was a wonderful example of a classic Trakehner broodmare with her depth in body, harmonious lines and powerful movement. She has two USDF HOY awards on her record from one year of showing - one 2nd place Trakehners Maiden and Yeld mares, and one 3rd place All Breeds, 4&5 year old Materiale Class. She also won the Central Florida Dressage's Raswan Award in 2003. One well-known show photographer always referred to her as “Marilyn Monroe”, saying she was “sexy and she knows it!” Riding Zophiel was an incredible experience that everyone who rides should have the privilege of experiencing, she is why we breed Trakehners and that complete partnership is what we hope to produce.
The dam:
Dam sire Prälat was bred in Germany and exported to the US in 1977. He was sired by the important dressage producer Herzbube and had an Anglo Trakehner dam by Manolete xx. Herzbube stood at various studs throughout Germany, and became equally successful in producing breeding stock and sport horses. Among his many outstanding daughters, one truly shines: E.St. Tilsit III produced the three German Elite stallions Tenor, Tivano (both by Tümmler) and Tuareg (by Radom), as well as E.St. Tänzerin V (by E.H. Consul) – the dam of E.H. Tambour, Thalys and Travell, along with Tanzstunde, dam of the approved Tanzpartner. Prälat himself is sire of the 4th level dressage horse Macht and the Prix St Georg competitor Malerei, as well as the successful intermediate level eventer Nutzen. Prälat comes from the mare family of O260 Primadonna (Hollatz – Oberrode). Through his dam and grand dam he carried direct TB and Arabian blood. The same family also produced the very successful UK-based approved Prokofiev (by E.H. Beg xx), who is showing at FEI levels in dressage.
Second dam sire Magnet was a substantial grey son of Pregel from the same mare family as Zophiel’s sire Martini, which consolidates this pedigree to some extent. His sons Elfenglanz, Igor, Ergo, Polarmond (ATA) and E.H. Stettin all established a variety of sport lines. Magnet’s daughters Ovation (Onia’s granddam) and Scharade II will always be remembered as some of the best in the entire breed. For more on Scharade II, click here.
Mare family - The Zitzewitz mare family is part of the larger O1A J. Adana (von Zitzewitz – Weedern) line. The Zitzewitz branch is still strong and prominent in America while it is practically lost in Europe. It is represented by approved stallions Zeus MV and Zulu MV, an accomplished Hunter. The approved stallions Ansporn and Alaskafuchs come from this family, and the ATA Honor Roll Mare Totilane (by Totilas o/o Zitzewitz by Ortelsburg, the foundation mare of Zophiel’s background) produced the approved Casino.
The sire:
The bay Martini *Pg*E* has left a very strong mark on Trakehner breeding in North America. Imported in utero, he was born at Jean and Roy Brinkmann’s Valhalla Farm in FL who owned, trained and stood him throughout his entire career. Successful at Grand Prix Dressage, Martini moved on to become the USDF’s number one dressage sire for quite some time. Three sons were approved with the ATA: Feuertänzer (out of Fancy Free by Pregelstrand), Hilife (out of Henna by Hilarius) and Stiletto (out of Suprecocious by Abdullah *Pg*E*). In addition, the multi-talented Incantare by Enrico Caruso *Ps*E* is out of a Martini daughter, Icon.
Martini’s dam line was that of O181A2 Masliebe (Gestüt Hunnesrück), a line that originated with the mare Martchen by Harun al Raschid (Arabian), a half sister to the famous mare Kassette. The strong Arab background was always a dominant trait in the hereditary treasure of this particular Trakehner family. Martchen family has produced stallions such as Mohammed, E.H. Maizauber, Meilenstein, and Malachi (ATA).
From the same background comes the O181B2 family of Malvenblüte, tracing back to the mare Mascotte by Adamas ox in East Prussia. This family became most known through the elite stallion Marduc and his numerous offspring.
Martini’s dam Maranja was one of the many good Tannenberg daughters. Tannenberg sired a great number of horses including 11 approved sons. Of Tannenberg’s German approved sons, Schiwago and Germane were important stallions during their time. Germane (out of Gemma by Kongo) left a number of outstanding dressage horses and the mare Friedliche, who in combination with Amadeus produced the mare Freundin, dam of the two Champion stallions Farinelli (1996, S level dressage) and Freudenfest (1999), both by Tolstoi.
Schiwago was the champion of his approval in Germany in the 70s and only had a limited chance in breeding, as he left the country and died young. His most outanding offspring in Germany was the National Champion mare Cordula (out of Coretta by Auftakt), who is the foundation mare of the popular premium stallion Cadeau (by Silvermoon). Tannenberg’s ATA approved sons include Flugwind, Meistersinger *Ps* and Morgenstrahl.
Flugwind (out of Flugtaube III by Flugsand) sired the ATA approved Saxon (out of Sadana by Condus), who in turn sired the ATA approved Grand Prix dressage stallion Windwalzer *Pg* (out of Wonnedame by Virgil). Another Flugwind son is the British bred and approved Holme Grove Solomon (out of Schlobitten by Malachit, also dam of Schiwago!), who sired a number of outstanding international dressage and event horses and who is somewhat of a legend in Great Britain.
Meistersinger *Ps* (out of Menuett by Fasolt) was a successful dressage horse and sired the ATA approved and PSG successful dressage stallion Kreshendo (out of Karisma by Isolan). Another result of a crossing of the Martchen mare line with Tannenberg is the German elite stallion Maizauber (by EH Bartholdy). An upper level dressage horse himself, he sired a number of State Champion mares and several approved sons, such as Bellini Go, the Grand Prix show jumper Humanus, the Grand Prix show jumper Bel Espace Go, and the premium Harlem Go (out of Hamamelis by Pardon Go). The sire line of Martini is one of the breed’s most important sport horse lines, that of Burnus AAH. The Shagaya Arabian stallion Lapis ShA is the foundation sire of this family. For some interesting history on this line, click here.
Burnus was most famous for his sport horse offspring and he produced three approved sons for the Trakehner breed, Alarm, Markes Letzter, and Habicht (for more on Habicht, click here). For five consecutive years, Burnus was the number one producer of show jumpers in Germany (all breeds). His offspring included Bariton, ridden by the Olympic gold medal-winning dressage rider Harry Boldt, and Kim, who, with rider Karl Siemens-Fischer, were members of the German three-day event team at the World Championships in 1982. Another of his offspring, Schwalberich, demonstrated the great attitude of this line by an outstanding round in the Hamburg Show Jumping Derby in Germany with rider Bernd Bagusat steering him with one hand, the other arm in a cast and sling, through what is reputedly the most demanding course in the world.
Through several outstanding daughters, Burnus’ impact can still be felt today. Elite mare Blinklicht II is the foundation mare for the stallions EH Buddenbrock, Blitz & Donner, Bellheim, Baluster, and Belzasar; Kostbare is dam of Königsstein, the dam sire of the highly popular international Grand Prix dressage winner EH Münchhausen TSF; Tuberose produced the impeccable Tümmler, sire of many great sport horses and mares, and the two elite sons Tenor and Tivano; and Tugend III is dam of two international show jumpers and the mare behind the influentiall stallions Tolstoi, Tycoon (the German one), Topas II and Turnus.
Coktail’s dam was a descendant of the famous Corrida mare family that originated from the main stud Trakehnen, just like Habicht’s dam line of Handschelle. Please refer to the pedigree chart of >>Onia<< for the detailed charts on the Corrida family. Coktail’s dam sire was the substantial black Boris by Gabriel, which makes him a half brother to the famous dressage producer Halali (foundation sire of the EH Marduc and EH Hyllos lines).
