Sire - Summertime
Summertime is a Trakehner Verband Elite Candidate and was approved as a premium stallion in Neumünster in 2000. He passed an excellent 70 day test and also won and placed in Young Dressage Horse classes in Germany, as well as Riding Horse Suitability classes which include jumping. Summertime has produced excellent foal crops in Germany with many inspection champions and the approved stallions Songline (Champion in 2006, sold for 325,000€), Eveiro and Giovanni Silva in Germany, as well as Eisenherz in North America.
Summertime's sire E.H. Michelangelo was a leading mare producer in Germany and the Netherlands. As a riding horse producer, his focus was on dressage, but a number of very successful eventers also stem from his lines, e.g. the approved Hölderlin at CIC*** level. Michelangelo was approved in Neumünster in the 1980s and left Germany for Holland, where he started his breeding career. It was not until 1991 that his first crop of sons was inspected in Neumünster. That crop yielded the amazing champion Kennedy and the premium Guy Laroche (ATA). Other approved sons include the 1998 Reserve Champion Hirtenruf (now FEI dressage), the pinto Contrieu, the Danish dressage sire Michellino (e.g. sire of the 2009 European Dressage Champinships Team Bronze medal winner Mistral Hojris) and the Oldenburg premium stallion Mon Dieu. Michelangelo shared his sire Pasteur xx with another legendary dressage sire of the Trakehner breed - Mahagoni. Michelanglo's dam Miami, who was awarded State and Verband Premium as well as Elite status, also produced the international Grand Prix dressage winner E.H. Monteverdi TSF.
Through his dam Sarogna, a Bundeschampionat qualified riding horse in Germany, Summertime contributes the blood of yet another major sire of the Trakehner breed: E.H. Arogno, Anglo Trakehner by Flaneur out of E.St. Arcticonius xx by Apollonius xx, was one of the most prominent sires in Germany and also influenced many other breeds through his sons, grand sons and great grand sons. He is the foundation of the very successful line of E.H. Caprimond - E.H. Hohenstein, as well as of the top Danish warmblood line of Schwadroneur - Blue Hors Hertug, to name just two. In the falling dam line, the Ibikus-son Valerian and the mare producer Wilder Jäger then round out a valuable genetic background. Summertime's mare family of Sophie also produced the Neumünster Reserve Champion Samurai II (later exported to the US), the East German show jumper sire Sarastro and the impeccable show jumper sire Sarafan.
Dam - Onia
Onia was purchased at an older age because I could not resist her due to her pedigree, she is an E.H. Consul daughter out of a Lucado mare from one of my favorite mare families. She had only been shown once in her life and ended up the Grand Champion (all breeds) of the prestigious Sporthorse breeders show - Montreal-Blainville. She is also a ¾ sibling to the stallion Onassis. While it was some sort of a gamble to try and breed an older mare, we were blessed with three exceptional foals. I did write all about Onia and our experiences when Onia gained her Honor Roll status with the ATA, to read the article, click here. She retired from breeding, and was started under saddle as a 21-year-old and continued to exceed all of our expectations, being ridden at least four times per week until she passed suddenly at age 28. She was bred by Hans-Joachim Krausse, who was also the breeder of the stallion Seigneur, a Champion in Neumünster.
The mare family of O69A Oka was founded by the mare Oka (by Eispalast out of Omaza by Thronhüter). She was inbred to Tempelhüter, the symbol of the Trakehner breed before WWII. Oka’s daughter Olivia (by Burnus AAH) produced the brood mare Ordnung (by Schöner Abend), dam of the important stallion Ordensglanz (by Herbstglanz). Ordensglanz was a stallion of outstanding character and discipline; he served as the carriage horse for a farm hosting children during the summer vacations for over 20 years and died at the age of 32. His sons EH Argument, Argonaut and Glanzlicht were approved for the breed. EH Argument was a very good sire of dressage and show jumper horses, his most famous offspring was the Hanoverian branded Anthony FRH, National Champion under Isabelle Werth and Team Gold medal winner at the European Championships in 1998. Glanzlicht was the approval champion in 1994 and won his first Grand Prix Dressage at age 8.Oka’s other daughter Okatina II (by Aquavit) is the mare that founded the Ovation branch of the family, which is Onia’s branch. Her daughter Orante (by Gunnar) is the dam of the elite mare Ovation (by Magnet). Ovation is the dam of Pr. St. Oktave II, Onia’s dam, as well as the approved stallion Onassis *E*(by EH Consul). Onassis’ influence on the German breed is slim, but noteworthy. He produced Sonnenwende, the dam of the Bundeschampion eventer Seacookie (by Helikon xx). The gelding was sold to international event rider William Fox-Pitt after his rider and owner, Ingrid Klimke, had taken him to CIC*** level, and in 2010 placed in the top ten of the two **** events Rolex Kentucky and Burghley, UK. Onassis is also the 2nd dam sire of the German State and Verband Premium and Elite mare Insterfee VII (by Kennedy). She is dam of approved In Petto, the 2003 NMS Champion stallion, In Flagranti (now successful at S level dressage), and the three State and Verband Premium mares In Zukunft, In Vita and In Farbe (all sired by E.H. Buddenbrock).Onassis’ full sister Oda II was a brood mare for the private stud of Insa and Hilmer Ruprecht in Germany. Her daughter Olga III (by EH Sixtus), a State and Verband premium as well as Elite mare, produced the premium stallions Oliver Twist (by E.H. Monteverdi TSF) and Okavango (by Hibiskus). Oliver Twist sired the 2007 NMS Champion Grand Passion and the approved Singolo out of his first foal crop on the ground.Onia’s dam sire Lucado (by Donauwind *E* out of Lutetia by Flugsand) died rather young, but was able to leave a number of high quality daughters. It is generally accepted today that he was the best son of Donauwind. His daughter Amina is dam of Amneris III, the dam of the approved Adenauer (by E.H. Marduc). Eskade by Lucado is dam of the ATA approved Eikon and the Oldenburg branded Lucado daughter Finette produced the mare Finale (by Pik Bube I), who is dam of the celebrated riding horse champions Danny de Vito and Don Pikado (both by Donnerhall). The elite mare Galante V by Lucado (out of Gunila by Ordensglanz) produced Grazie II (by E.H. Arogno), the dam of the approved Gipsy King (by Camelot) and Gipsy Lady (by Camelot). Gipsy King founded a small stallion line via his sons E.H. Manrico and United Kingdom, while Gipsy Lady’s approved son Grafenstolz TSF (by E.H. Polarion TSF won the Bundeschampionat and the FEI World Championships for Young Eventers in Lion d’Angers within one year. Galante V is also dam of Guy Laroche (by E.H. Michelangelo) and the direct mare line of Galante has recently reached high popularity with several Champions, including 2007 NMS Champion Grand Passion and the National Champion Mare, Gipsy Flower.Legende IX by Lucado is dam of the elite stallion Lehndorffs (by E.H. Marduc), a sire of outstanding and very successful dressage horses and several good show jumpers. We have used this outstanding stallion several times in our program and invite you to read and learn more about him on his own page >>E.H. Lehndorffs<<.Four of Lucado’s sons were approved: Aron, Kondor, Herbstruf and Mohammed. Mohammed is the sire of the Grand Prix winner and approved stallion Gershwin and of the mare Goldstern, dam of the approved Glenn Livit F (by Polarpunkt), who was sold to the US as a Hunter in 2002.Lucado’s dam line is that of Lust, a line that has produced some very important sires for the breed. Also from this line are the young deceased dressage champion Liebestraum (by Saint Cloud), the FEI dressage stallion E.H. Latimer TSF (by Saint Cloud), FEI dressage stallion Lions-Club (by Ferrum) and the older Luzifer (by Gunnar), who left several approved sons and really good sport horses for the breed. In the falling dam line, the stallion Gunnar appears. A lot of the substance and strength in this line comes from Gunnar, the most important son of Komet. Gunnar sired such sons as Amagun (sire of the Virgil-E.H. Leonardo jumper line, sire of the Olympic dressage competitor Ampere, grand sire of the ATA’s Schubert), Bernstein (state stud stallion in Westfalia), Herzbube (sire of E.H. Heuriger, Husar and the elite mare Tilsit III), Luzifer (sire of the approved Shamane) and Mozart *E* (sire of the ATA’s Kaspareit and Prelude by Mozart as well as dam sire of E.H. Banditentraum). Gunnar’s daughters include Gundula (out of Istella by Helianthus), who produced E.H. Angard (by E.H. Anduc) and Valjoscha, dam of E.H. Vatout and of the mare Valise (by Kassiber), who produced the approved Vivus (by Habicht). The sire: The late elite stallion Consul can be named as one of the most influential and important sires in the Trakehner breed after WWII. Consul had a large number of approved sons, the most popular being E.H. Rockefeller (out of Rauhe by Donauwind), Enchantee (out of Etüde by Mahagoni), sire of Schönglanz, a FEI dressage stallion, Guter Planet (out of Guyana by Mahagoni), Reserve Champion of his approval in 1989, Inkognito (out of E.St. Inderin by Karwendelstein), a state stud stallion in East Germany and dam’s sire of the approved Sachsenwald and the 2009 Bundeschampion of the German Event Horse, the approved Herzog, Onassis *E* (out of E.St. Ovation by Magnet –Onia’s granddam), Seigneur (out of Burgschwalbe by Mozart *E*), Champion of his approval and sold to the US (where he died only one year later, but sired the approved Hennessey), Kaiserwalzer (out of Kavallina by EH Ravel), participant at the Bundeschampionat in Germany and the last Consul son approved worldwide, Interconti (out of Irene by Mahagoni), premium stallion in 2002. Interconti has already sired four new sons, so is an important link to keeping this tremendously successful blood “alive” for the Trakehner breed. Interconti’s sons include the premium Zauberfürst (dam by E.H. Caprimond), who was Germany’s 2007 Reserve Bundeschampion of the 3-year-old Riding Horses and won his first S level classes in 2011, Contis (dam by E.H. Michelangelo), an up-and-coming eventer in the UK, Nachtruf (dam by Giorgio Armani) and the stunning 2010 Reserve Champion and 2011 National Riding Horse Champion, Herbstkönig (dam by Timber).Several of Consul’s daughters became stallion producers, including Georgine, who foaled the 1994 Champion stallion Glanzlicht (by Ordensglanz), a Grand Prix winner at 8 years of age; Konsula, who is dam of the approved Kitfox (by Amiego, ATA) and the 2000 Champion and Grand Prix dressage stallion E.H. King Arthur TSF (by E.H. Buddenbrock); Hatari, the dam of the premium Halbgott (by E.H. Partout), who competes at FEI levels with Marco Bernal in Florida, and probably Consul’s best daughter is St.Pr.,Pr.+E.St. Tänzerin V (out of E.St Tilsit III by Herzbube), dam of the approved E.H.Tambour, Thalys (both by E.H. Hohenstein) and Travell (by Abisko).Obviously, Consul can now also be found in multiple generations down the line, since many of his sons in turn have produced daughters that influence the breed. One example stands out: Guter Planet’s daughter Habsburg II is dam of the 2001 Reserve Champion E.H. Hofrat (by E.H. Gribaldi), a stallion who is of equal importance for the Trakehner and Hanoverian breeds. His Hanoverian son Hotline, the Champion stallion in Verden, was sold at auction for 800,000 Euro and sent his first sons for approval in 2009.In addition, Consul has to be named as one of the most popular and important Trakehners in the Hanoverian breed in the past 15 years. He sired a number of excellent brood mares, such as Consulin, who in combination with Donnerhall produced the approved Don Vino, and Cleopatra, again in combination with Donnerhall, is dam of the Hanoverian champion stallion Don Frederico (now a FEI dressage stallion). Consul’s son Celibedache was approved in Hanover and is a winner at Grand Prix dressage. Crisp, also a Hanoverian Consul son, represented Australia at the 2004 Olympics in Athens in dressage and Consul’s Hanoverian grand son Bonaparte won Team Gold at Olympics and World Championships in dressage for Germany.Consul’s sire was the famous and successful racehorse Swazi xx, a son of Herero xx out of Sayonara xx by Birkhahn xx, a legendary German TB sire. The line traces back to the most important TB stallion of all times for WB breeding: Dark Ronald xx (via Herold xx-Alchimist xx-Birkhahn xx line). Swazi’s sire Herero xx was inbred on the legendary British sire Hyperion xx, a fact not only adding to his performance on the track, but also the performance his WB-bred offspring were able to achieve. The dam of Swazi xx, Sayonara xx, also produced the TB Saros xx, who, like Swazi xx, found his way into WB breeding. His two Trakehner daughters High Fidelity and Goldanna are the dams of the approved stallions Houston (by Sir Chamberlain), an eventer at National level and the approved Gondoliero (by Prae Vento). Swazi xx also sired the Trakehner stallion Grand Prix (out of Goldene Au by Schwalbenflug), who was one the country’s leading eventers and short-listed for the 1992 Barcelona Olympics. He was approved after his long competition career and stood at stud for Gestüt Hörstein.Consul’s dam Cornau has truly managed to make a name for herself, as almost every foal she produced became important. Her daughter Cornu is dam of the approved show jumper Cornus and the FEI dressage gelding Chapeauclaque; her daughter E.St. Corna won the Bundeschampionat as a 3yr old, moved on to a Grand Prix dressage career, then retired as a brood mare and produced the premium stallion Checkpoint and the St.Pr.+PrSt. Corne, who sold for 55,000 Euro at the Neumünster brood mare auction. Corna’s daughter Caro-Dame is dam of E.H. Connery, without a doubt one of the leading sires of modern sport horses today – his stunning son Imperio won the Bundeschampionat in 2008 and also took home the Silver Medal from the FEI World Championships of the Dressage Horse. He returned in 2009, and won Bronze! Finally, Cornau’s daughter Colmar produced the approved Comtesso (also by Swazi xx).The large Corrida family, of which Consul is a member, has had significant impact on the Trakehner breed worldwide. To name a few of the stallions from this line: Cadeau, Couracius, Couleur-Fürst, Caanitz, E.H Connery, Cornus, Checkpoint, E.H. Chardonnay, Coktail, and last but not least, Almox Prints J. This outstanding stallion was bred in Russia and participated at the two Olympic Games of Seoul (1988) and Barcelona (1992) in show jumping. Almox Prints J was one of the best stallions in international jumping ever, winning over a quarter million in prize money, and returning as the champion from such prestigious Grand Prix’s as Wiesbaden/GER or Rotterdam/NL. His first son, Finest Prints, was approved in Germany in 2008.
